The March of Time

The end of one year and the beginning of another have always invited reflection, a tradition rooted in humanity’s intimate understanding of regret, consequences, and, perhaps, a bit of heavy drinking. This post follows that familiar path, though I’ve learned over the years to harbor few regrets, accept the consequences of my actions with solemn responsibility, and, most importantly, distinguish between well liquor and top shelf. (Spoiler alert: it’s the price tag, and the toll it takes on your esophagus.)

Despite the reflective tone, today’s post is an uplifting one, at least in my humble opinion.

In January of 2025, my wife and I made a bold decision: we sold nearly everything we owned, packed up our dogs, and left for Costa Rica to pursue semi-retirement and full-time writing. We traded erratic weather and government, as well as decent-paying jobs for a tropical paradise, a foreign language I still wrestle with, and the constant grind of turning a lifelong passion into a sustainable career.

As we reach the end of the year, I’m excited, and a little stunned, to say that we’re closing in on that goal. At the time of writing, more than six books and nine short stories have been published under The Kinthur Chronicles. My wife and co-author, April Nia Raine, joined me on this creative journey in 2021, and I can’t overstate what a gift it is to find someone willing to play so fully in your fantasy world. She’s grown into a remarkable storyteller, remains my biggest fan, and serves as the first-line editor for everything I release.

Looking ahead, 2026 will be our biggest year yet. We’ll be continuing the Penta Ka Wa series while expanding the world through new short stories and novellas. For those who support us on Patreon, every short story, podcast, interview, and video will be available there first, and those offerings will continue to grow alongside our audience.

I won’t give away everything just yet, but other series will be continued, and entirely new ones will begin. As always, news breaks on Patreon before anywhere else, so subscribing is the best way to stay ahead of the march.

Until next time, keep reading.
